65 % of the whole Slovenian geothermal po-
tential is located in thePomurje region, where
we have installed 31 production wells, mostly
used for tourist purposes, but also for heating
of the greenhouses and apartments. Current-
ly consumption of the geothermal energy in
Slovenia is 616 TJ per year, from where the
Pomurje regionmakes207,33TJ per year or
33,6% from thewholeSlovenianaverage. Also
the heating pumps are using for the geother-
mal energy exploitation.
WATERENERGY
Since the old times water has being conside-
red as themost precious natural gift given to
us for the everyday use. Nowadays water is
themost important renewableenergy source.
Mostly 1/3 part of the yearly produced elec-
tric power in Slovenia is produced by the hyd-
roelectric stations. The hydroelectric stations
are transformation thewater energy potential
into electric energy. Big hydroelectric stations
in the process of their functioning are nega-
tively influencing on environment, what raises
a question about the value of such energy.
The local water potentials, such as rivers and
streams, are actively exploiting in Pomurje,
likewise the Mura rive and its hydroelectric
stations.

istsarewarningabout the feasiblewaterdownfall at thesection fromŠentilj till Veržej up to
64meters. Such interventionwould be definitely destructive for the local flora and fauna.
